NFPA 10: Standard for Portable Fire Extinguishers, 2007 Edition is the current standard that has been adopted by the State of Maine. This standard applies to the selection, installation, maintenance and testing of portable fire extinguishers. It also includes the requirement for a monthly "Quick Check" that a fire extinguisher is ready to be used and that corrective action is immediately necessary.
NFPA 10 states in part that servicing of fire extinguishers must be done by trained persons. It also requires that proper tools, recharge materials and manufacturer's recommended replacement parts be available. If you would like more information, or to schedule an appointment you may call 207-873-2802 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
NFPA 10 also requires an inspection, or quick check to be done when extinguishers are initially placed in service, and thereafter at approximately 30-day intervals. This inspection requires a minimal amount of training and may be performed by it's owner or designee. It should include verifying that a fire extinguisher is available and will operate. If you would like more information about this, please call us at 207-873-2802.
We keep records of your annual and semi-annual equipment services. We also keep a list of your equipment that prints on our dispatch tickets to help us keep track of your required services, and will notify you to schedule them when they come due.
After providing an inspection (SERVICE) or recharge with or without testing or repair (RECHARGE), we will complete and attach a valid service tag to your extinguisher. We will also install a service label to the back of your cylinder to indicate when periodically required testing has been performed. These tags and labels are required by fire codes and your insurance company. They should never be removed, covered or tampered with between services. Our company name and phone number are printed on the service tag and labels for your convenience in contacting us.
