Annual Extinguisher Maintenance


Portable Fire Extinguishers

NFPA 10: Standard for Portable Fire Extinguishers, 2007 Edition is the current standard that has been adopted by the State of Maine. This standard applies to the selection, installation, maintenance and testing of portable fire extinguishers. It also includes the requirement for a monthly "Quick Check" that a fire extinguisher is ready to be used and that corrective action is immediately necessary.

Annual Maintenance (Annual Inspections)

NFPA 10 states in part that servicing of fire extinguishers must be done by trained persons. It also requires that proper tools, recharge materials and manufacturer's recommended replacement parts be available.

Bi-Annual Maintenance Inspections

Commercial Wet Chemical Kitchen systems require maintenance by a trained person every six months (bi-annually). 

Monthly Inspections

NFPA 17A requires a monthly inspection to be conducted by the owner, in accordance with the manufacturers manual.
